Webinar: E-courts and virtual courts in India: A temporary answer or a permanent solution

Updated: Mar 29

Dear All,

Greetings from SCLHR!

It is our pleasure to invite you for the 3rd Webinar being organized by the Society.

Topic - "E-courts and virtual courts in India: A temporary answer or a permanent solution"

Topic Brief:

Access to justice is fundamental to preserve the rule of law in the democracy envisaged by the Constitution of India. The challenges occasioned by the outbreak of COVID-19 have to be addressed while preserving the constitutional commitment to ensuring the delivery of and access to justice to those who seek it. Accordingly, the legal profession has gone into overnight digitization. For the first time in the history of the profession, the Apex Court of India and other subordinate courts are hearing matters virtually, due to social distancing norms. In fact, the Supreme Court of India is pushing for an e-filing system, which will radically change the filing processes for lawyers. With e-filing becoming a reality, they will be able to file matters at their convenience from any location.

Where it is being said that the e-courts and virtual courts can be a “game-changer” for the time, energy and money they (virtual courts) can save for litigants and lawyers, in this webinar the speaker will talk about the future and development of e-court in India, What plans are under consideration with the government with respect to e-courts and how this tech-friendly step can revolutionize the judicial efficiency. We would also discuss whether this forced virtual revolution will make legal professionals more receptive towards embracing technology to increase efficiency and its viability.
