The Iowa City Human Rights Commission has recently extended its support for the black people and the “Black Lives Matter Movement” and has pledged to take actions in solidarity with those individuals who are the victim of racism. According to the Commission, such victims face health disparities and violence by the police and others, because of colour racism which still exist in the society. The Commission recognized that oppression of black people exists in the police departments, eviction courts, legislatures, banks, academia, and hospitals.
The Iowa City Human Rights Commission pledged the following vows to embody their affirmation about Black lives Matter.
They will continue to uplift the contributions of non white, non-male, and non-Eurocentric people in their recommendations to the Iowa City Council and support events dedicated to their recognition.
They will actively confront racism, sexism, or any other form of biasness within the ambit of the Commission City of Iowa by encouraging through training to increase the awareness of racism, sexism and bias and how it violates Human Rights.
All necessary steps will be taken by the commission to support City’s departments’ efforts to improve diversity, equity and inclusion.
They will plan and promote additional programming and opportunities focusing on understanding oppression and recognizing the contributions of people from underrepresented groups, as well as promoting widespread discussion of related issues and concerns.
The Commission pledged to continuously engage the people of the community in dialogues and activities to make them realize what actually “Black Lives Matter” means and till this objective is not achieved they stand in solidarity with the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
